Fraternities and sororities offer an amazing collegiate experience and have been a part of SIU since 1923, playing an important role in the lives of thousands of students and alumni. Their educational programs, social activities, service projects, and leadership development opportunities contribute much to the University community. SIU currently has 35 fraternities and sororities across four governing councils that vary in individual missions; however each organization was founded on the principles of scholarship, service, leadership and community. The total membership of more than 1,100 students comprises 10.3 percent of the campus community.
